Launceston Children and Families Easter Festival

Launceston Children and Families Easter Festival

As the sun beamed down on Launceston’s Riverbend Park and the air buzzed with excitement, more than 4000 smiling faces gathered for this year’s Children and Families Easter Festival. But this wasn’t just any festival. It was a special tapestry of joy and community spirit, headed up by volunteers who dedicated their time and energy into making the event a day to remember.

Stephanie Sebastian, Tasmania’s area manager, smiled as she watched the festivities unfold.

“Nobody is getting paid here, it runs off people giving up their time,” she explained as she gestured to the bustling stalls and activities.

As the day went on, the park came alive with music and laughter. Australian singer and entertainer, Colin Buchanan, took to the stage, his lively performance captivating audiences of all ages.

However, it wasn’t just about the entertainment. Author and Baptist Pastor, Karl Faase, shared powerful messages of hope and faith to all who attended. The theme of the festival focused on “Mess or Puzzle” and aimed to illustrate how God reveals Himself to us as the “One True Puzzle Completer.”

It’s our task to work with Him in the cosmic puzzle of reconciliation by firstly being reconciled to Him and also to each other through maintaining unity in the Spirit (John 17:11). This was certainly lived out at the festival with over 48 different churches and cultural groups represented, all volunteering their time and efforts to celebrate the true meaning of Easter.

From face painting, balloon animals and cookie decorating, there was no shortage of activities to enjoy. Children danced and played, their laughter echoing throughout the whole park. Amidst the fun and excitement, there was a real sense of unity and togetherness, as families from all walks of life came together.

With the sun beginning to set, Stephanie reflected on the impact of the festival. “We wanted to share the spirit with the wider community.” And indeed, it was a day filled with love, laughter and the joy of Easter, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
