You are sharing God’s love in rural communities

During the recent summer school holidays SU Australia’s GO Missions brought together six teams of young adult leaders to the Cape York Region of Far North Queensland to share God’s love to rural communities and support local Christians in the great work they’re already doing.

For Christians in the towns our GO Mission teams reach, they’re often hundreds of kilometres away from their closest neighbour. It’s less common for them to meet any Christians outside of their own church. Through your support SU Australia is equipping volunteer leaders to serve and reach regional and remote communities, providing support for local Christians.

GO Missions team leader for Mapoon and Weipa, Tim, was first invited on a mission trip when he was just 17. He witnessed firsthand the impact the teams were having, in particular in rural First Nations communities. So he continued to return year after year investing in these towns and building relationships with the people he met.

‘I think it’s more than what we do in the communities themselves, it’s being able to go and encourage the Christians who are already there and support them in what they are doing. They often don’t see many other Christians throughout the year’, says Tim.

‘When our Lockhart team went to the local church on Sunday morning, they were able to meet the pastor and offered to help run a Christmas Carol event on the following Monday.

“They made a bunch of posters to put up around town, and even invited a government worker, who ended up attending the event! There were about 10 people at church on the Sunday morning, and then on Monday evening they had about 30 people from the community turn up.’

‘We are planting seeds and growing the seeds that have already been planted in people’s lives out there. It’s a reminder that Jesus is real and He still exists and you should continue to follow Him.’
