Tent Space for all at Family Campout

Tent Space for all at Family Campout

For the second consecutive year Family Campout on the Hawkesbury river went off with a splash by day, and the comforting crackle of campfires by night.

The vision for the camp is simple: Provide a unique opportunity for families to get away, meet creatively around God’s word, and take time for reflection and community.

“Everyone is aware that many families are under increasing pressure,”reflects Team Leader Glenn Coombs.

“Family camp is a beautiful pause, which reminds us what is important in life, and that is relationships. Relationships with God, and relationships with each other. And we get to model that over the weekend.”

Everyone is welcome, with a mixture of seasoned campers and first-timers. For single parents or those in difficult situations, Family Campout provides the chance for a new experience in a safe and supportive environment.

No tent. No problem. ”We set it all up…[and say] there’s your spot,” says Glenn.

Of course, no good camping experience is without its challenges.

“The first night… we are halfway through the first meal and this big windstorm comes up and flattens our site,” says Glenn.

“But in a weird sort of a way when something happens like that it sort of supercharges community.

Not even the fierce wind could blow away the sense of togetherness and encouragement. By the next morning all was well again.

“This was just the decompress and the reset we needed this weekend, ” one camper reflected.

Thankyou for investing in families. Because of your support those in need of support and refreshment are experiencing God’s love and community in rich and life-changing ways. Visit su.org.au/donate to keep this work going and growing.
