SU interns Jaz and Eve grow skills and build community
Each year, SU welcomes dozens of interns into our Camp Coolamatong and Children & Families Ministry internship programs, providing opportunities for them to develop skills for ministry, while growing in their faith.
Your support makes these opportunities possible for young Christians like Jaz and Eve!
“I was midway through Year 12, and didn’t know what I was going to do,” says Camp Coolamatong intern Jaz. “I had been a past SU camper and a mission volunteer, so after hearing about the program, it felt like a positive next step.”
The Coola internship program sees interns living on-site for a year, helping to run school camps and studying an optional certificate in Outdoor Education or Christian Ministry.
“You learn so many skills just by being in the environment—from leadership and teamwork, to relating to kids on their level. I’ve grown a lot as a Christian, too.”
What stands out most is the community of like-minded young people that the internship fosters.
“We’re able to build really strong relationships with each other because we’re always together. The internship is a lot of work, but this place and the community we have makes it worth it, especially when we get to help so many kids.”
Eve is interning this year in our Children, Youth & Families Ministry program. As a new chaplain in regional Victoria, she needed a good support network behind her – something SU could provide thanks to your support!
“I just finished my Master’s in Social Work, but it was very secular. So I really wanted to strengthen my faith and journey with Jesus,” says Eve. “The internship has been really helpful in learning about myself personally, and how to relate better to children and marginalised people.”
The internship with SU has also given Eve unique opportunities, inspiring her to start an SU Australia “CHAT” (Cultural, Hearing, Asking, Telling) program in her growing multicultural church.
“It’s really helped my self-confidence, and I’ve cherished the time I’ve had in the intern hub. It’s a big step forward in my journey, and helped me realise where the Lord wants to use me.”
