Lions, tigers and bible stories – oh my!
It was a blessing to see young people in the Hobart area engaging with the bible, having fun, and growing in faith at our recent SUPA South Camp, Roches Beach, Lauderdale.
Based on the theme, “Totally Tribal” campers enjoyed many activities and games, including watching The Lion King, which led to deeper discussions on the parallels between that story and the Bible, says SUPA South Ministry Director, Samuel.
“A highlight for the children was then seeing those same animals from the movie in real life at nearby ZooDoo Zoo, and also reading stories from the bible and learning more about Jesus’ life and ministry.
“Through our small group discussions we introduced campers to the good news of Jesus in a relatable manner and engaged in conversation about what we were reading.”
“Even more encouraging was hearing a couple of campers sharing what they remembered of the bible from last year’s camp, knowing that their only connection since had been last year’s camp or SUPA Club activities run by their local chaplain,” he says.
A further highlight for Samuel was seeing two former campers, Lestyn and Cortay, return as junior leaders this year.
“Seeing them stepping up in front of others, not much younger than themselves, to share God’s message was a big step,” Samuel says.
At SU Australia, we are passionate about equipping and raising up volunteer leaders like Lestyn and Cortay.
Thank you for making this possible for young people to grow in their faith as junior leaders, paving the way for future generations to know and love Jesus.
