Inviting all people into relationship with God

Inviting all people into relationship with God

As the national movement of Scripture Union strengthened its bonds, the Victorian Field Team eagerly welcomed Chris Battistuzzi from South Australia to collaborate in leading, resourcing, and supporting mission teams across Southwest Victoria. Chris, immersing himself in the scenic beauty of this region, has found divine moments of transformation happening alongside teams from Portland to Port Campbell.

In the early months of 2024, the stage was set in a Port Fairy hall for an extraordinary event – the Port Fairy Theos Talent Night. The evening commenced at a leisurely pace, with a few brave attempts from local youth, and Chris playing a vital role in igniting the audience’s enthusiasm.

However, following Chris’s recital, an unexpected twist came from a spirited member of the Port Fairy SUFM team taking centre stage, with a vibrant young voice commanding attention. “On your feet! We’re going to sing ‘a round’ together!” she declared, injecting an unexpected energy into the atmosphere.

With infectious zeal, she explained the concept of ‘a round,’ a harmonious song sung collectively in small groups, with parts intertwining. The chosen song for this impromptu musical moment was a familiar call: “Love the Lord your God with all your Heart…”. Suddenly, the ambience shifted, and what was once a room filled with “cool teens and young adults,” many not identifying as Christ-followers or churchgoers, underwent a remarkable transformation.

This diverse, ragtag community embraced the power of unity as they found themselves joyously singing and praising God together. The Port Fairy Theos Talent Night became a sacred space where actions harmonised with voices, creating an unexpected and beautiful expression of worship in a corner of the world touched by God’s transforming presence.
