God’s weaving work
It is truly wonderful how God weaves our stories together.
16-year-old Joshua is a great example. He came to the West Zone’s Junior LEAD weekend camp recently with 30 other young Christian leaders to be encouraged to put Jesus first and learn practical skills for serving at SU events and at their churches, says SU Australia Discipleship Catalyst, Sally Howe.
“On camp, Josh says he was thankful for a book we sent him after he went on a hiking camp (Cape Wild) in April, as part of our follow-up work to encourage young people to explore faith or grow as disciples of Jesus,” says Sally.
Rebecca McLaughlin’s “10 Questions Every Teen Should Ask (and Answer) about Christianity” was also a helpful resource for Josh when his friends at school asked him about Christianity.
“My goal is to be an example to them of who Jesus is – representing him in how I live,” says Josh.
“Before Cape Wild, I was reading the Bible like a book, and not getting meaning from it.”
On Cape Wild, Team Leader Dawn, and her team helped Josh and other campers engage in devotions and discussions that brought the Bible to life, and Dawn suggested Junior LEAD for Josh to learn more about living for Jesus and serving others.
More of the picture of God’s weaving work includes Josh’s extended family being part of the SU Mission at Bremer Bay on our southern coast for several years. His dad Darren was also on SU staff as a school camping worker in the early 2000s leading a canoeing camp “Canoeumup”.
Joshua adds, “I’m at Junior LEAD to learn skills to become a leader with SU. I have a drive to draw closer to God. However, I know this is not a journey I can take on my own. I love how SU values being together and working as a big family. It is better to share; I can see it happening on this camp.”
