Discover what God is doing in Katherine
For 50 years SU has partnered with Indigenous church leaders in Katherine to run the children’s program for the annual Katherine Christian Convention (KCC), an event aimed at equipping and encouraging local churches through specialised Bible teaching and Christian fellowship.
For this year’s event, which takes place over the May Day long weekend, SU invites you to be part of a very exciting opportunity to learn from Indigenous Christian leaders and to see what God is doing in outback Australia, says SU Cross-Cultural Innovations Manager, Tim Fawsett.
“This will mostly suit people caravanning across Australia, and are willing to detour to Katherine. It will be a very rewarding and enriching experience,” he says.
SU will organise a local caravan park or campground for those interested. Each day SU’s cross-cultural team and those who wish to join will head to the convention and return to ‘camp’ to debrief, pray, and share experiences.
Immediately following the convention’s final day, you will have an opportunity to visit an Indigenous community.
“We will sit with the elders, listen to their stories, experience their hospitality, ask questions, and be blessed by what God is doing in this special place,” Tim says.
“SU Australia’s heart is to honour our Indigenous brothers and sisters through this initiative. We also want to give Christians from other parts of Australia the opportunity to learn from the leaders, pray with them, and come away and tell others about what God is doing.
“It will be very, very different to what many are used to. But it is beautiful; it is rich; and very much a reminder of the rich diversity of God’s kingdom,” Tim says.
