Church collab that’s ‘Out of this World’
Earlier this year, SU partnered with St Peter’s Weston to hold an “Out of This World” SUPA Holiday program. It was a fun-filled event, and a beautiful opportunity to share the love of Jesus as part of a Christian community.
Over the course of the two days, more than 50 primary-aged children had a blast doing activities ranging from space-themed games and decorating alien cookies, to building balloon-powered rockets.
One parent shared just how much she appreciates these programs…
“Especially in Canberra, where there are so many working parents, it’s so nice to be able to have a safe, fun place to send our kids during the holidays.”
Even more importantly, the children looked at the gospel of Mark, and the story of Jesus healing the paralysed man. It was so wonderful to see the children mirroring the same amazement at God’s miracle as those who witnessed it in the Bible.
“He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, ‘We have never seen anything like this’!” Mark 2:12.
Partnering with St Peter’s Church made the program extra special with both SU and St Peter’s contributing a director and volunteer teams. Even more exciting was for church leaders to be able to invite participants to join their children’s church program the following Sunday.
As one parent told us “My kids felt very welcomed to come to your church!”
At SU, we are all about partnerships like this! By working alongside churches we are creating opportunities for young people to encounter Jesus, and helping them find a community in churches like St Peters.
