Churches unite for Alice Springs youth

Churches unite for Alice Springs youth

by Mel Quilliam

For the first time in many years, Alice Springs has held a combined youth event with young people attending from at least six different churches. I’ve been in my role with SU for almost two years now, and have been privileged to work with some amazing pastors who do great work with young people here.

I was hoping to organise a combined youth event last year, but it wasn’t the right timing. So when one of the youth pastors approached me about getting one happening, I was excited to help gather some amazing leaders with very different gifts into one room, and watch the magic happen.

We had around 60 young people and leaders in attendance. We ran some wide games, get to know you games, an art station, as well as sharing a meal together and a devotion. We were reminded by one of the youth leaders about how an invitation to hear the word of God can change someone’s life.

There were many conversations on the night about this being the first of many events. I was excited to witness the goodwill between churches, which even extended to lending buses. And to see those young Christians who felt alone in their churches or schools have encouragement in their faith. It was a real blessing to be involved.

I would like to thank SU supporters for their prayers and financial support for us in Alice Springs to enable positions like mine to exist to help connect faithful Christians together who previously haven’t had the time to build connections because of their faithful service in their own churches.

Please pray for our churches in Alice Springs, and for continued good relationships. Pray also for the young people to have Christian support from their peers in all areas of their community involvement. Thankyou for your support.
