You are equipping young men for life
Zheon grew up surrounded by volatile men. Conflict was a part of the air around him, and anxiety was lodged in his skin.
Through everything, Zheon’s mum was his stable point, a small circle of love in a hostile world.
Until one day that circle expanded.
When she heard about an SU Australia camp for young men, Zheon’s mum encouraged him to attend.
On arriving at GENTS camp, Zheon’s fear was “through the roof.” He didn’t know what to expect, or who to trust. But this quickly shifted.
“Throughout my life, I haven’t had many people that really care … and going on that camp everyone cares ….” reflects Zheon.
“After a couple of days of being there, my fake smile turned into a real smile.”
“This camp will hold you safe so you can breathe in every part and every moment there. You can just live.”
Zheon discovered the gift of community. He is also on a journey exploring God.
He feels that God is always beside him, his hand on his shoulder.
Zheon has since returned for several years to camp, calling it the best week of his year. He has shared his story with other campers– including over 100 boys in chapel– and has gradually taken on more responsibility.
“I want to inspire other people. . . other campers, and show them you can live life to the fullest. . . ” reflects Zheon.
Thanks to you, young people like Zheon are finding safe havens and places where they can experience God’s love in life-changing, life-giving ways.
