Volunteers get creative to bless Eyre kids
After two years of COVID cancellations – and the threat of cancellation again this year, SU Australia’s Kids Camp Eyre Peninsula (KCEP) returned this year – but with a slight format change.
It was an answer to prayer!
This year’s theme was Hope as an Anchor for the Soul (Hebrews 6:19), which saw 47 campers, aged 7-12, enjoy a fun-filled program of games, activities and growing closer to God.
Demand for KCEP, which is traditionally an overnight camp, is always high with the event quickly selling out each year. This only made the disappointment over the last two years that much greater.
Determined not to let the children miss out on connecting with friends, making new ones, and having opportunities to grow closer to God for a third straight year, our volunteers had to think outside the box.
From this KCEP Pop Up was created, a one day outdoor event, which was held at the Port Neill Foreshore.
In addition to plenty of games and activities, the children listened to a message from Pastor Steve Albrecht based on Jesus being the anchor for our soul, while Pastor Pastor Nathan Whillas from Unity Hill Uniting Church organised the music, supported by a seven-member team of musicians.
Songs on the day included: Are You Serving Captain Jesus, My Lighthouse and Give it Away.
It wasn’t just the kids who had a great day, parents too were blessed.
“Thank you to all who worked so hard to get today up and running. What a fabulous day! Hoping we might see more ‘pop ups’ in the future,” one parent explains.
With the success of this event we know parents are keen to see their children get together to meet new friends and grow their faith in Jesus.
None of this would be possible without our amazing volunteers – thank you! Thank you also to our financial supporters who help keep these ministries running.
