Things get SUPA in Bordertown
You are enabling small communities to run big events, bringing the Good News to children and their families.
Skirting the boundary between South Australia and Victoria, Bordertown has become the backdrop to a brand new SUPA Sports event. Held over two days during the October school holidays, SUPA Sports celebrated Aussie sporting culture with a fun, inclusive, and active lineup.
This all came about when a group of local church volunteers formed a new SUPA (Scripture Union Primary Age) team.
With support and training from Ministry Coordinator, Chris Battistuzzi, SUPA Sports was born.
“It was especially good to have two local school chaplains on the team, who can follow up with students and support their faith journey,” Chris notes.
Through rounds of water balloon volleyball, noodle hockey, frisbee golf and more, around 60 children and their families experienced God’s love in a safe and fun environment.
Between the activities, Chris led a time of worship and Bible teaching centred around John 14:6. Many children and their families heard about Jesus for the first time and some even took home Bible-based resources that were given out on the day.
The success of this inaugural SUPA event has created momentum amongst the volunteers and dates have already been set for another SUPA Sports event in April 2025.
SUPA programs can be adapted for your context to better reach children and families with the Good News. SU Coordinators can help assemble a team of volunteers in your local area.
