Meet Joe Mullins – the 102-year-old SU Supporter
In 1937, a young seventeen-year-old by the name of Joe Mullins attended a Scripture Union Sports Camp in the UK. Although Joe didn’t know it when he registered for this camp, it was a decision that would change his life forever.
At camp, Joe heard Jesus’ invitation in Revelation 3:20, and his eyes were opened.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.“
In response to this invitation, Joe gave his life to Christ on that very camp. Ever since then, he has been faithfully following Christ and supporting Scripture Union. His Christian walk has led him all over the world: from serving on the battlefields of WW2 to 33 years as a missionary with his wife, working with Scripture Union camps and schools ministries in India.
Today, the nearly 102-year-old Joe is a faithful and prayerful supporter of Scripture Union’s ministries in Australia, and attends our Regen Appeal dinner in the ACT every year. Joe continues to be passionate about helping children and young people meet with God daily and lay the foundation for a lifetime of serving, trusting and loving Christ.
“Establishing a regular pattern of a quiet time for reading the Bible is vital to following Jesus at whatever age we are,” says Joe.
Having come to faith through Scripture Union, Joe knows all too well how impactful SU programs can be on young people.
And as supporters of SU, we know that you share Joe’s heart to see young people come to know God. The Good News of Jesus will never grow old, and we are so grateful for supporters just like you, who pray, give and partner with SU’s ministries day in and day out, year after year.
You are helping us raise up the next generation of Christian disciples; the Joe Mullins’s of the future!
It is enriching to see Rev Joe Mullins still active with SU. I’m one of the members where Rev Joe was the presbyter in charge at st.Johns Church, Bangalore, S.India, God bless Rev Joe with long & healthy life.
It was certainly a pleasure and honour to have been a member of St.John’s Church in Bangalore when Rev. Joe Mullins was the Presbyter in charge. Also a member of our Youth Group from 1965. Fond memories of Rev. Joe Mullins and his family. God’s continued blessings Rev. Mullins!
Rev Mullins joined St. John’s church Bangalore at the end of 1962. In May 1963 he married my husband and I. We were the first wedding he had officiated at after joining a pastoral ministry. I still have a copy of the sermon he preached that day.
Mrs Mullins was the best Priest’s wife ever and I say this after 68 years of being a member in that church.
When my daughter Karen was born she took me to the hospital and visited or called every day of those interminable 13 days Since her
family was complete I was the happy recipient of baby accessories!
It was with great sadness I read of “Padres” passing but I hope to attend his funeral as we now live in Canberra.
