So many reasons to celebrate in the ACT

So many reasons to celebrate in the ACT

SU Australia begins new journey with Christian Education in Schools (CEIS).

The much anticipated annual Discovering Life Dinner in the ACT saw hundreds attend from across the ACT and Southern NSW, representing a massive 42 churches, and ensuring a wonderful night of fellowship, laughter and encouragement.

Reflections on the lively ministry activity of SU Australia in the region warmed the room, including details of a cake-cuttingly good journey with CEIS that began last year.

“In November, we had a celebration event to . . .celebrate the merging of the two ministries [SU Australia and CEIS]. There were 100 people that came. Alison Hunter and their coordinator cut a cake together,” says Field Development Manager, Sophie Valestro.

CEIS has been working in schools in the ACT for over 17 years, with over 2000 students and nine churches actively partnering through providing volunteer teams.

Guests at the Discovering Life Dinner heard snapshots of what the CEIS ministry involves, including an interview with seven-year-old Luke (a beneficiary of the classes).

You may remember reading about young Luke in our last edition of Pray and Connect, after he felt led to give $20 to the ministry of CEIS. Luke took a seat at the front of the stage, his seven-year-old legs dangling above the ground (but with well-prepared notes in hand) to share why this ministry matters so much personally to him. His voice spoke for all the children.

“I like that we can learn about Jesus at school and not just church. It’s really fun . . . . We learn about Jesus and God and play some fun games,” reflected Luke.

When asked why he thinks people need to pray and give money Luke replied: “Because if we don’t give money then what would happen to Christian education.”

Please join Luke in praying for SU Australia’s work with CEIS as we seek to share the Good News of Jesus in local schools through Christian education, lunchtime groups, and more.
