Remembering the Lord at Family Camp South

Remembering the Lord at Family Camp South

‘Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome …‘ (Nehemiah 4:14b)

Stephanie Sebastian (Area Manager in Tasmania) reflects on another wonderful week at Family Camp South, a unique camp in TAS that changes not just individual lives, but those of whole families.

There was plenty of fun to be had at Family Camp South 2025 with a puppet show, bottle rockets, an escape room, crate climbing, beach trips, and more!

We were blessed with some beautiful sunny weather for our beach trips and outdoor games. We also had an epic thunderstorm and a shower or two, which helped things settle down and created a more relaxed atmosphere after an exciting morning.

It was a week where we were able to speak of God’s transformational love demonstrated in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. We looked at Jesus feeding 5000 people, his interaction with Zaccheus, his words to his disciples as he shared The Last Supper, and his resurrection and forgiveness as he made breakfast for Peter and the disciples at the beach (see John 21).

As well as being a time of fun, it was also a time of sharing life together. We celebrated birthdays, but also mourned those who were no longer with us at camp. There was prayer, reflection, and sharing as the adults gathered together late into the evening.

Our team worked together well in the kitchen, in the programming, and in the informal moments of creating connections between children and families. It was a delight to see everyone in action, serving together, and building a culture of acceptance and care.

Camp is never the end of our chance to remember and share the love of God. Sometimes it is just the beginning. We’d love you to join us to continue praying for the following:

Thank God for safety at camp, and for bringing the campers and team together to create a welcoming environment.

Pray for the team as we recover from camp and process our time together. As we think back on camp, help us to learn and to grow and to walk humbly with God, knowing his great love for us through Jesus. Give us wisdom as we think through what next year might look like.

Pray for the campers as they return to regular routines and life. Pray that they will have fond memories of camp, but in particular that they will ‘Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome’ (Nehemiah 4:14b). This was our memory verse for camp, which many children remembered on the last day! Pray that they will remember and know God’s love for them in the year ahead.

Thank you for supporting camping ministries like Family Camp South to create moments of community, connection and care between children and families. To see what ministries are happening in your local area, head to su.org.au/get-involved.
