“Let’s do it! Let’s organise a kids’ camp”

SA’s SUPA Camp returned in 2023! “Let’s do it! Let’s organise a kids’ camp.”

The infectious enthusiasm of SU Australia Senior Ministry Coordinator, Chris Battistuzzi sparked a four-month journey of prayerful organisation, resulting in the realisation of SUPA Camp 2023!

The inaugural Survivor-themed camp unfolded at the end of the October school holidays in Halbury, situated in SA’s Lower Mid North. A gang of 21 team members and 33 kids converged from diverse directions, with some making brief journeys and others travelling for hours to be part of this special event.

Dee Kenyon the camp’s Team Leader, worked alongside Chris, who served as the Speaker. He skillfully conveyed the survival narratives of Jonah, Moses, Lazarus, and Jesus, illustrating how God has the power to rescue us all. In small group settings, kids were encouraged to contemplate the idea that survival is not enough; thriving is just as crucial.

The Survivor theme permeated Tribe Time and Crafternoon activities, offering campers opportunities to ponder these stories and commit them to memory. Evenings featured  moments of connection around the fire, where campers shared personal stories of faith, creating a profoundly impactful experience. SUPA Camp 2023 was a venture inspired, guided, and blessed by God, prompting deep reflections on the campers’ relationships with their Creator, the one who made and loves them.

Feedback from the campers serves as evidence of God’s presence during the event. When asked about their desires to learn more about God, the Bible, or Christian living, responses included requests for “More insight into Jesus’ life,” inquiries about discerning God’s calling and seeking realistic ways to share their faith. The campers found the songs, small group discussions, and lessons about God particularly intriguing.

The success of SUPA Camp 2023 suggests that next year’s edition could easily double in size, with many campers expressing a desire to return and extend invitations to friends.

Indeed, our God is truly magnificent. To keep up with all the latest camps, missions and ministries across South Australia and the nation, visit su.org.au/events.
