From PAC to Port Fairy, Penny sees God’s fingerprints
Penny began serving as a dance-leader in her mid-twenties on SU’s Performing Arts Camp (PAC) because of the exciting opportunity it offered to call out the unique personality and character traits of the campers as they discovered more about God and themselves.
“Having programs and opportunities for people to experience and explore who God is is really important. Especially at PAC – there’s music, drama, and visual arts – so many places where we can find the fingerprints of God,” says Penny.
“I think we have to give God room to move, and SU’s programs, whether it’s missions or camps, allows for engagement and exploration of that.”
After leading on PAC for a few years, Penny was recently invited to lead on a brand-new SU Theos Mission at Port Fairy.
“Port Fairy Theos has been a dream for many years. It was always the hope that this Mission could happen for the older teens and young adults in the area,” says Penny.
“We set up a “Chill, Chat and Chai’‘ space where we opened up the local church hall and had blankets and pillows on the ground, tables set up with card games, and room for a band on the stage.
“One man was looking for a place to re-charge at the end of the day, and he came into our space. We offered him a warm drink, and he just sat there and closed his eyes and enjoyed the atmosphere of worship.
“When he had his fill, he was so grateful and thanked us. It was really powerful to see someone feel so welcomed and included.”
Through your generosity, Missions like Port Fairy Theos, and camps like PAC are possible.
