Deanne’s heart to share God’s Good News in regional NSW
Deanne is the Primary School Christian SRE coordinator for the Grafton area and covers 12 schools; working alongside 10 volunteer teachers.
Although she is fairly new to the role, Deanne is passionate about sharing the message of the Bible with young people and is seeking to connect SRE teachers in the area so the program can be run wherever it is welcomed – even in rural communities.
“My aim is to make sure all the children in the area enrolled in the program have access to SRE this year; whether that be weekly, fortnightly, monthly or once a term,” says Deanne.
“Currently I teach at three schools, and in each school, lessons can look different. One school has weekly 30-minute classes, another has a whole-year-level assembly where between 60-75 students attend each week. I also teach at a rural school in an Indigenous community.”
“Once or twice a term, a dear friend and fellow SRE teacher and I take turns driving 82km out of Grafton to meet with the five children from the school. We spend an hour with them, and cater the lessons to meet them where they’re at; considering their cultural background and needs. We always include an art or craft project which is lots of fun.”
Thanks to Deanne and her team of servant-hearted volunteers, our young people are hearing the Good News of the gospel, right where they’re at.
Through your generous support, the call from Romans 10:14-15 is being lived out today: “…and how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?”
