DCYPHER CAMPERS WANT MORE

DCYPHER CAMPERS WANT MORE

This year’s four-day DCYPHER Camp at Blue Lagoon campsite in Dodges Ferry just wasn’t enough for our team of campers, who enjoyed a fun-filled week of activities where all felt welcomed and safe, says DCYPHER team member Fudge.

“On the final morning, we could hear the campers saying, ‘we don’t want to ever leave’ and ‘can’t DCYPHER go for a [whole] week?’, which was really encouraging to hear as leaders. We wanted to create an experience where the campers could have a great time in an inclusive environment while hearing about the message of Jesus,” says Fudge.

Across the four days, there was plenty of laughter, and engaging conversations over mealtimes, where campers and leaders explored questions around life and faith.

The camp speaker shared each day from the Encounters with Jesus resource by Timothy Keller before everyone broke into small groups. The leaders were encouraged by all the campers’ questions and the lively discussions that followed.

When campers weren’t engaging in Bible discussions, gaming or completing computer challenges, they played board games, 8 ball, sang karaoke, and competed in ping pong challenges in the Blue Lagoon Games room.

On Sunday the campers spent the afternoon playing archery tag, a game that involved precision, teamwork and fun.

“A highlight was when several of the leaders made a run ’through the gauntlet’ while the campers filled the air with their arrows [not the dangerous kind], which led to plenty of funny moments,” says Fudge.
