Commitment, Competence and Character: Inside Junior Lead Camp
The Junior Lead Camp equipped students in years 10 to 12 with Christian leadership skills, aiming to grow their confidence as leaders and positively impact their schools, churches and wider communities.
The camp’s vision emphasised the areas of commitment, competence and character, encouraging the campers to firstly grow as disciples and then model Jesus’ leadership style.
“We wanted to equip them with ministry skills and the confidence to step out as a leader,” explained the camp’s team leader, Ben Evers.
Each day began with personal reflection time, followed by interactive talks, small group sessions, electives and workshops.
“The sessions looked at understanding identity in God, overcoming obstacles in leadership and how we are spiritually formed as disciples.”
The campers even had the opportunity to practise these skills while discovering their own unique leadership styles by running small groups, organising games with purpose or sharing their story.
One camper particularly stood out for connecting and engaging well with the program, even sharing their story publicly over dinner on the last night.
“It was really quite impactful for a lot of the campers,” Ben remarked.
Amidst all the learning, the young people also enjoyed fun team building activities including a campfire on the final night.
Feedback from the campers was overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting an increased confidence in their leadership abilities and valuing the new friendships made.
