Coming to Faith on Melrose Easter Camp
Year after year, the Melrose Easter Camp continues to demonstrate God at work in amazing ways. This past March, the event drew over 100 young people from all walks of life to learn about how Jesus is the Light that saves us from darkness.
Camp coordinator, Hamilton McNicol, describes the camp as “a really special place,” citing his personal highlight of reconnecting with a former camper he met last year.
Hamilton met James* (name changed for privacy reasons) when he was cynical, depressed and trying to drag others down with him. Describing himself as an avowed atheist, James sought to sabotage every group conversation that had to do with Jesus and faith. While only a teenager, James had already lived in over 30 foster homes.
With a smile on his face, Hamilton reflects that this year, “there was something clearly different about James. There was hope in his eyes and a softness and enthusiasm in his heart.”
Following last year’s camp, James had come to know Jesus. Now he loves camp and exploring the brightness of Jesus’ light.
James’ journey from brokenness to faith serves as a powerful reminder of how God changes lives through SU Australia’s camp ministries. Many leaders, inspired by similar experiences, have often come to know Jesus on camp and then feel led to share Him with others.
Hamilton praises God for the Melrose Easter Camp and the many other camps that run throughout the year blessing children, young people and their families with opportunities to learn of God’s love and good news.
