Chaplain Kristian Honours Defence Families with an ANZAC Day Plaque

Ripley Valley State High School, nestled right near the Amberley Air Force Base, is more than just a hub of education – it’s a haven for many defence families navigating the unique challenges of military life. Chaplain Kristian stands at the heart of this community, supporting students and championing initiatives like sponsoring an ANZAC plaque to honour the families he serves.

From the moment students arrive on campus, Kristian is there, ready to offer a listening ear. Whether it’s a parent being deployed interstate or the upheaval caused from frequent relocations, Kristian’s caring presence is constant for the children. Parents also find themselves confiding in Kristian for support. This can look like a parent tapping Kristian on the shoulder and letting him know, “my husband’s about to go on training, can you please see if my son’s struggling?”

Kristian’s impact is evident in the lasting connections he forms with students. When a child he had been supporting for some time suddenly had to move states away, they still emailed Kristian updates and reflected on fond memories. With a smile on his face, Kristian recalls hearing from the student while travelling, “we went through a town called Yass, it made me think of you because of your personality!”

But Kristian’s impact extends beyond individual conversations. Recognising the complexities and challenges that come with military life, Kristian led an initiative for SU Chaplaincy to sponsor a plaque to honour defence families at the school’s ANZAC memorial, fitted with the SU Chaplaincy logo. His idea not only honours the service of the defence families but also fosters a wider sense of belonging and community within the school.

As a chaplain, Kristian continues his work in supporting students and defence families. The plaque stands as a tangible reminder of chaplaincy’s unwavering commitment to stand by students in need and provide hope. At Ripley Valley, Kristian makes sure students know they’re not alone.

Thank you for continuing to support chaplains like Kristian so they can share God’s love and hope with those who need it most.

Oh I so excited to hear of Kristian’s chaplaincy committee to defence force children. As a child and teenager I attended 12 different schools over 4 states including 3 states in 1 year. It was tough! And I attended Amberley SS. Bless you Kristian- I would have loved support from a chaplain so many years ago.
