CEIS is NOT boring
Discover how your support is not only helping young people hear about God’s big story, but engaging them with the hidden riches of God’s living word
In an age of phones, screens, and digital distraction devices galore, reading and attention levels are said to be dropping, not just among young people, but among adults too.
And yet we know that God’s word is active and living, and has a message for all of us when we take the time to listen and explore. For CEIS teachers, one of the greatest challenges and joys of sharing the gospel message today is in helping young people connect in ways that meet them where they’re at, so they too can engage with God’s big story.
But how exactly is this done?
Recently, a CEIS leader shared how she was able to come alongside a disengaged student and help him discover the treasures of the Bible in a way that was relevant and interesting to him. It all began with the student’s honest admission in class that he “always finds CEIS boring.”
Rather than his vocal view putting the leader off, she was only more eager to show him the riches found in God’s big story in the Old Testament.
She began to explain and discuss the geography of Egypt and the surrounding areas — the rivers, the vegetation, and the land use.
They proceeded to talk in detail about what “manna” could be, and looked in the Bible at texts referring to it. He then became interested in the Israelites’ journey through the desert to the Promised Land. By the time they got to the point of making comparisons between Moses and Jesus, he was very engaged!
At the end he said, “I’ve changed my mind about CEIS. That was really interesting!”.
CEIS teaching isn’t always easy, but sharing God’s word honestly and in a way that allows students to ask questions and make their own discoveries is never time wasted.
Thanks to your support students are discovering that CEIS —and most importantly, the Bible — is far from boring. Who knows where their investigations and curiosity will take them next?
We need to keep CEIS teachers in our prayers!
