Camper gives life to Christ

Camper gives life to Christ

School Camping Fieldworker in WA, Sarah, shares about the importance of creating safe spaces for young people to ask questions and engage with the Bible and prayer at Beach Camp.

Beach Camp 2025 was an amazing camp for many reasons, but one of the most exciting parts of camp was one of the campers giving their life to Christ.

Charlotte* had attended Beach Camp in 2024 where she received a Bible from one of her leaders. This year she returned with a little more knowledge about the Bible and a lot of questions. During small group times, she wasn’t afraid to ask those questions. Questions such as, “How is it fair that people who don’t know God yet live a good life don’t go to heaven?” And, “What if people don’t ever get the opportunity to hear about Jesus? Also, “How is it fair that we live a life with so many privileges but there are so many people who have nothing, if God still loves them as much as he loves us why do they have to live like that?”

Finally, “How do I know that God loves me?”

These questions brought up some amazing conversations during our small group times and some we knew how to respond and others we didn’t know the answers to, however, we encouraged her to put them in the box for our question and response time.

[Throughout the camp], Charlotte kept asking questions and challenging us as her small group leaders and other leaders outside of small group time.

On the Friday night of camp, some leaders and other campers including Charlotte prayed for each other. Charlotte encountered God’s love through this time of prayer.

After more conversations on Saturday about committing your life to Christ, some of Charlotte’s friends and a few leaders went down to the beach that night and Charlotte prayed that God would come into her heart, and she gave her life to Christ.
