A Picture of God’s Family at Autumn Glen Echo Camp
Leaders weren’t the only ones creating a welcoming environment at WA’s Autumn Glen Echo Camp.
To Emma Lathbury, SU Holiday Camps Coordinator, and many other leaders’ delight, the Year 8-10 campers spent the week showing one another what it looks like to live in God’s family.
“It was just amazing to see how the leaders created a welcoming environment, but the kids did it as well,” Emma shares.
“They did it for each other.”
From the very first day, the camp was a reflection of God’s Kingdom. A place where every kind of person, with different gifts, backgrounds, and from various walks of life, was included and valued.
It was a testament that Emma can only describe as a work of the Holy Spirit.
Simon,* a high-needs camper who attended Autumn Glen Echo with his support worker, never found himself left out or sidelined by the popular kids.
“They treated him as one of their own, and it showed that he really did belong,” Emma recalls.
Throughout the week, another child from a foster-care background became curious about Jesus and the Bible after building relationships with others in the supportive environment.
Emma’s hope is that these campers, who loved, cared for, and accepted each other despite their differences, could be the change in their own schools and communities.
“I think camp was a really transformative experience, and a positive step in the right direction for kids relating to one another.”
Thank you for helping to create spaces like Autumn Glen Echo Camp, where children and young people can experience life in God’s family and in turn, show His love to others.
