A New Chapter for Youth Ministry in South Australia

South Australia’s (SA) new community field worker role is set to change the way young people in the state engage with faith.

Unlike traditional chaplaincy positions, this pioneering role offers a fresh perspective and greater freedom to openly share the gospel with local communities and schools.

Leading this effort is Levi, whose passion for youth ministry drives the vision behind the role:

“As the community field worker, I’ll be involved in providing services to schools and the community and maintaining a presence for young people to explore their faith in everyday life,” says Levi.

With a strong missional focus, this position is designed to meet youth in their own spaces and isn’t just limited to the classroom.

Levi envisions building authentic connections with young people through activities like playing games, or setting up marquees at local skateparks, and simply being a positive, consistent role model in their lives.

Partnering with local churches is also crucial to the success of the role, with the aim being to mobilise local SA congregations to bring faith out from the four walls of the church and into the everyday lives of Australians.

Beyond building connections and promoting programs, the end goal is to create lasting heart transformation.

“You can create all the programs in the world, but people need to actually relate with God and engage with Him in their hearts,” Levi explains.

While still in the early stages, the potential impact of the community field worker role is significant – particularly for young South Australians with limited connections to the church.

Levi is eager to see how this position will help bring young people to faith, and is asking for prayer to stay responsive to the Spirit’s guidance as this new venture is gradually brought into fruition.
