Investing in the men of tomorrow
Ask almost any young person what the hardest part of an SU Australia camp is, and their answer is likely to be something along the lines of: “when it ends!”
Through your steadfast, generous support and heart to see young people discipled in faith, you are ensuring that God’s big story keeps going (and going) on camps like GENTS.
GENTS, a boys’ camp, stands for Grades Eight, Nine, Ten, and Seven. Many campers return yearly, maturing as they move through the camp’s built-in, progressive stages. In later school years, the campers become “squires,” strengthening their faith through acts of service for their fellow campers and leaders.
A standout moment is when each camper shares their testimony, reflecting on and owning their faith.
At the core of GENTS is a passion for supporting and equipping the campers with tools to develop into men who love and serve God.
Joel, who you may recall from our Discovering Life Appeal, attended his first GENTS camp in South Australia in Year 7. Now a leader, he loves modelling his faith to young men in the same way his camp leaders modelled faith to him.
“[GENTS] is a great platform for these young boys to be surrounded by older male [Christian] role models, which a lot of people don’t have in their life . . . . It’s had a massive impact in my own journey,” Joel reflects.
“The ultimate heart behind Gents Camp is seeing young boys transition into authentic Christian [men] . . . so we can see the next generation of amazing young Christian men that we need in the church.”
