Filling the father gap at Blokes Camp
Your support of SU’s camping ministries is playing a crucial role in helping boys grow into the men God created them to be.
WA’s Blokes Camp for boys in Years 7–10 offers many their first experience not only of the God of the Bible, but also of positive father figures.
“A lot of these young boys aren’t from Christian families, and a good portion of them don’t really have a solid father figure in their lives,” says Camp Director, Josh Thorne.
For these boys, the absence of a father has often left a void.
That’s where the leaders at Blokes Camp aim to fill that gap, coming alongside campers through sharing the gospel and teaching life skills.
“Our primary mission is to share the hope that we have with the campers. We run daily Bible talks explaining the gospel and short Bible studies afterwards,” says Josh.
After engaging with teaching based on John 3:16, many boys reported feeling closer to God, with one camper even giving his life to the Lord during camp.
By the end of the week, a young man who had struggled with severe anger issues showed remarkable improvement, controlling his temper better and even making friends.
“We really saw God working in this kid,” Josh smiles.
At Blokes Camp, the influence of positive father figures is shaping campers’ hearts through the gospel and helping them understand what it truly means to be a man.
