Fun with friends
What better way to learn about friendship than from the source? In the Bible, God shows us what real friendship is, and at NT Supa Camp 2024, you helped young people model it in action.
Have you ever shown up at a camp with not a single friend? This year, we had some courageous SUPA camp kids who boldly did just that!
With 39 campers coming together from 13 different schools–including remote communities–and representing 15 different churches, there were a whole bunch of ‘different’ and not knowing who was who.
By Friday evening though, nerves settled, fun found new levels and friendships were forming. We even uncovered some new puppet friends that helped us learn more about how friendships work (and even how they don’t!).
Saturday saw us searching our Bibles for friendships we could learn from, like David and Jonathan (friends who cheer each other on), Naomi and Ruth (friends who stick by each other, and Jesus and John (friends who go on mission together). We also began singing our memory verse and discovering some super messy play!
There were squeals, squeaks, and sloshing gumboots as campers made their dash across the grass with sauce, spaghetti and spam. Add in a shaving-foam fiasco and the ensuing water wars were a welcome wash-off!
Our incredible team of leaders facilitated great games, conversations and small groups. In our last session, there was a sea of hands responding that they had made a new friend at camp.
There were also a handful who decided they wanted to become friends with Jesus. For some, it was finding a new friend and for others, it was rediscovering an old friend. Either way, there is no greater friendship than that!
