A Winning Weekend at Games Camp

For self-professed gaming enthusiasts, Victoria’s annual Games Camp held at Camp Coolamatong is a highly anticipated event.

It’s an opportunity for participants to press start on a wide variety of board, tabletop and social games and meet new friends with similar interests, all within the context of a welcoming Christian environment.

First-time camper Isaac describes his experience as one of the best of his life, adding:

“If you’re a bit of a nerd like me, it’s an amazing opportunity to expand your horizons, meet new people and have a lot of fun while doing it.”

Between Mario Kart tournaments, fast-paced card games, and even a marathon three-hour board game, lasting friendships between attendees were formed in no time.

It didn’t matter whether campers were seasoned pros, or newbies just starting out, a love for gaming was all that mattered.

Beyond levelling up skills, Games Camp left space for meaningful faith-based discussions, with daily Bible studies and prayer walks around the idyllic Coolamatong campsite.

“We prayed for the success of the camp and explored the grounds. It was really fun,” Isaac explained.

A standout moment for Isaac was the auctioning off of remaining food on the last day to reduce waste, with the leaders putting on a charismatic show that had everyone laughing together.

“It just struck me that though there were lots of different people at camp, we could all come and have a big laugh together.”

Isaac is already counting down the days until he can return to Games Camp next year, eager for another round of fun and connection.

Games Camp perfectly illustrates how SU Australia continues to seek creative ways to engage young people, helping them discover life in God’s big story.
