Renewing the heart behind mission at South Australia’s team leaders training event.

For every camp, beach mission, SUPA club or program that SU SA runs, we want to trust God in each part of the process.

This reminder was pertinent at SA’s recent team leaders training event, where over 35 leaders from various departments gathered to be reminded of God’s purposes in mission.

SA’s Ministry Coordinator, Hamilton McNicol, describes the rationale behind the recent event:

“Over time, ‘mission drift’ can happen and people lose their focus. They stop seeking God and get into a pattern of being very programmatic.”

To encourage leaders to align their focus with God’s calling, five interactive stations presenting diverse data on the current spiritual and mental health of SA’s children, young people and families were set up throughout the room.

One notable station showcased research by Converge, featuring testimonies ranging from committed Christians through to deconversions, profoundly impacted the leaders.

Key speakers, including SU Australia CEO Alison Hunter and Adrian Blenkinsop from Converge, provided insights to help leaders ensure they are seeking God’s guidance.

“I want to create and nourish spaces for young people to discover or rediscover who Jesus is and what he has done,” one leader shared.

A significant highlight of the weekend was the commissioning ceremony, where leaders were symbolically crowned, reinforcing their identity in Christ and commitment to his mission.

“The weekend was about learning to abide in God and trust him in the mission.”
