Sharing God’s good news to remote QLD communities
In the lead up to last Christmas, a team of 25 high school students from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast volunteered to join SU Australia’s Beach 2 Bush mission.
The mission is aimed at giving young Christians from the city the opportunity to share the real Christmas story with children and young people in rural and remote Queensland school communities through a variety show which included puppets, clowns, songs and skits.
SU Australia team leader, Julie, says it was great to see the team put their faith into action as they connected with so many communities who don’t often get opportunities like this due to their remote location.
“We visited 13 schools over five days, so it was pretty jam-packed. I was really impressed with the team who gave up their school holidays to have an impact on young people in these communities,” says Julie.
The team covered a lot of ground travelling north from the Sunshine Coast to Yeppoon and back.
“We prayed before we went into each community and the students and teachers loved the show.
“I was asked to lead devotions every day with the students and was feeling a bit apprehensive about what to share. I was encouraged by a friend to share my testimony, and when I chose to be open and vulnerable, I could tell they really connected with my journey. It’s something I’ll remember for a long time,” says Julie.
SU’s Beach2Bush Mission has been running for 27 years, blessing young people in remote communities with the Christmas message. Your support makes this possible. Thank you so much!
