WHAT IS REIS?
Religious Education in Schools – known variously as Special Religious Education (NSW), Religious Instruction (QLD/NT) and Religious Education (ACT) – provides students in public primary and secondary schools with the opportunity to explore the Christian faith from the Bible.
Using authorised curricula, Christian REIS teachers/instructors are trained and equipped to run age-sensitive classes for students whose parents or caregivers have chosen for them to be involved.

SU Australia does a wonderful job of supporting [REIS] teachers and instructors. They employ us, they’re giving us professional development and pastoral care. Their goal [in REIS] is to help local churches work together in community for the sake of the gospel.

Having Special Religious Education at school made me feel like I could ask my questions freely, learn more about God, and grow in my faith.

WANT TO GET REIS IN YOUR COMMUNITY?
Each REIS paid worker is supported by a local committee made up of volunteers and church representatives. REIS committees play a vital role in supporting REIS teachers, instructors and coordinators by managing resources and communicating in the local region.
Some of the important tasks that committees fulfil include:
- raising awareness, funds and prayer support from local church communities;
- liaising with school management to ensure quality, professional REIS is delivered in a supportive school environment;
- identifying, equipping and training SRE workers with the help of SU Australia;
- utilising the gifts and resources available from each partner church.
