Un-merry weather fails to dampen gospel message

Despite the rain, cold, and wind at this year’s Merry Beach Mission, many families were still blessed by the gospel message this summer, says first-time co-leader Isaac Walters.

“The weather for the first part of the week was atrocious. There were a few times we looked and wondered if anyone would come. So we just prayed, and sure enough, people continued to show up and get involved,” recalls Isaac.

From arts and crafts, acting out Bible stories, singalongs, beach games and the annual talent show, there was plenty on offer at this year’s Merry Beach Mission.

“On the first night we held the talent show and had a massive turnout. It was a lot of fun, and we helped raise money for the Rural Fire Service,” says Isaac.

But more than just a fun time, Isaac was particularly encouraged by his team as they shared the gospel message with holidaymakers in and around the beach community.

The theme for this year’s mission was rock stars.

“The rock star culture is about glorifying ourselves, or idolising things, and worrying about image, but Jesus offers us something different. He invites everyone, no matter their status or how they look, he is the servant king,” says Isaac.

For Merry Beach Mission director, Rob Clements, the week delivered testimony after testimony of God’s provision.

“This is where our prayer supporters are so essential – your labours are not in vain! We really felt your prayers. It’s such a thrill to see the Holy Spirit at work in young (and not so young) people coming to Jesus,” he says.

As for Isaac, he can’t wait to come back next year.

“There’s something unique about being with a group of Christians for a whole week, and working together to share the Gospel. It’s a really good way to kick off the year and a reminder of what our lives are meant to be about.

“This experience made me keen to live my life fully for Jesus and to put him before anything else, which I think is an awesome thing to come away with.”

Thank you for your prayers and support. Without you, ministries like Merry Beach Mission would not be possible.
