More than just a holiday camp

More than just a holiday camp

SU Australia’s Family Camp North, held near Fingal in January, was yet another reminder of why the work of reaching children, young people and their families is so vitally important, says SU Regional Director – Southeastern Australia, Stephanie Sebastian.

“While we did some amazing activities like kayaking, bushwalking, river rafting, swimming, low ropes, singing, trivia, dancing, art and games, it’s the people we connected with over camp that has left the lasting impression,” she says.

Whether it was the rough-and-ready eight-year-old who proudly smiled when he was encouraged for his problem solving skills; or the six-year-old who overcame separation anxiety to trust her new ‘best friends’ as she tackled the low ropes course; this was more than just a holiday camp.

It was about the mum with five kids who was able to take some rare time for herself while her children were looked after; and the group of upper primary boys who listened in absolute silence about becoming best friends with Jesus. It was the opportunity to see lives transformed.

One mum arrived at camp in a state of stress and grief, and she was able to leave on the final day feeling refreshed and cared for, shares Stephanie.

“This is why we do what we do… if for no other reason than to share God’s love with those who need it most and be that community for them. It’s more than just offering a nice holiday,” she says.

The team were also blessed by two unexpected surprise visitors, Angie and Sarah from SU Switzerland, who were holidaying in Australia and wanted to connect with their distant SU family Down Under!

The team members and campers were excited to see how SU is part of a much bigger, global movement.

A special thank to our SU Switzerland sisters, Angie and Sarah, for the beautiful photos from SU Family Camp North this year!

Thank you also to our amazing SU supporters in Tasmania and across Australia who share the same heart as our SU family across the seas. You truly are part of a global community of people who are impacting our future generations with God’s love, hope and good news!
