Izzy’s story

Izzy’s story

Everyone has a story. Izzy’s is about a young girl who endured bullying and loneliness that made her feel unloved, unwanted and worthless. Thankfully, that’s not where her story ends.

Between mum working full-time, dad not being around, siblings to compete with for attention, and bullying at school, Izzy’s sense of self-worth was at an all-time low. It’s tough for anyone, but for a young 10 year old girl who is still trying to make sense of the world around her, let alone her own emotions, the impact of all this was overwhelming.

In her mind, the only way to get attention was to act out in the school classroom. After all, negative attention was better than no attention at all.

Concerned for Izzy’s wellbeing, her teacher Emma and the school connected her with Sheree, the school chaplain.

This is where your support makes a difference.

Chappy Sheree stepped in and showed Izzy understanding and compassion when she needed it most.

The transformation has been incredible.

Now Izzy is socially and emotionally in a much better place. The bullying has stopped, she’s surrounded by good friends and she is secure in knowing her worth.

Working with Chappy Sheree has made a huge difference for Izzy. I’ve seen a big improvement in her self-confidence and self-awareness,” says Izzy’s teacher, Emma.

“Now she doesn’t walk out of the classroom; instead she’ll talk to me about how she’s feeling.”

For Sheree, chaplaincy is about modelling Jesus’ love and compassion.

“When I first met Izzy, I knew she was crying out for love and support. Her story is one I see again and again in chaplaincy. In our busy world, our young people need an extra support person in their life to tell them they are valuable and loved.”

For Izzy, having a safe person in the schoolyard that she can go to in times of need has made a huge difference.

“The first thing that comes to mind when I think about [Sheree] is her standing next to me. She’s always there for me. I can tell [her] everything and I trust her with anything.”

Everyone has a story. This summer, you can invest in the life stories of more children like Izzy to help them discover life and their place in that bigger story of life. Your gift will go towards training, equipping and resourcing Christian workers, leaders and volunteers in communities across Australia.
