Over his twelve years of teaching SRE, Dal has journeyed alongside students of all backgrounds. But regardless of who walks through his door, Dal’s heart is to see young people feel safe and empowered to explore the questions they have about God, faith and life.
“There’s no other place where you can walk into an environment where people will sit still for an hour and you can talk about the Christian faith, open up the Bible, and explore together” says Dal.
While Dal sees the vital importance of SRE classes, he says it’s not enough on its own to help a young person’s faith formation, which is why it’s important for SRE providers to work alongside churches, youth groups and others to allow young people to continue their faith exploration and growth.
“There’s a group of senior youth group leaders at our local church who I first met when they were in my middle school Scripture classes. They’re still sticking around, committed to investing in our local church. I’m starting to see cohorts come through and graduate, and it’s exciting to see where their life takes them.”
“I’ve seen young people with an inkling that there might be something more to all of this, but unless they connect with a church or youth group, that faith might not grow. There are a lot of adults out there who haven’t progressed from that beginner’s faith that they explored when they were teens – and I think Scripture classes are a real gift.”
At the heart of our ministry to children, young people and families is a passion for partnering with and through others. It’s a big mission to see every child, young person and family experience God’s love, hope and good news, and we can only achieve this by partnering with others.
