On 1 June 2021, Scripture Union movements in the Northern Territory, Queensland, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia united to become SU Australia. Generate (NSW) joined the family in October of that year.

Motivated by a desire to enhance local mission in more communities throughout the country, SU Australia formed around the desire for more children, young people and families to experience God’s love, hope and good news.

SU Australia Group CEO Peter James says that for more than 100 years countless young lives have been positively and powerfully impacted through SU ministries in Australia, including beach missions, camps, school chaplaincy, Special Religious Education (RI), action-based learning and training. Despite the great work being done on the ground through our passionate ministry workers and volunteers, together with our big-hearted, generous supporters across the country, we were only reaching a fraction of young people in need by working separately.

“Together we are stronger,” Peter says.

By creating a united, nationwide movement we are creating a pool of shared resources to enhance our ability to deliver ministry on the ground at the local level to respond to local needs in our existing communities and new ones as well.

We are on a great journey together. We do want to acknowledge the road behind us has been pivotal in getting us to where we are today but are excited for what lies ahead.
