Help them belong

Young people today face multiple pressures from society, technology and their peers. Mental health conditions are rising, and bullying is rife. SU is helping create Christian communities which allow for safety, support and opportunities to explore the true hope found in Jesus.

Emily's story

Young people like Emily, whose faith and trust has been broken because of childhood abuse and bullying, can often feel abandoned, even by God.

Finding a safe space

At an SU camp, Emily found a safe space to meet her Creator. She experienced God’s warm, life-saving embrace. It was a breakthrough that transformed her pain into hope.

You can bring Jesus near

Your support brings Jesus near to young people like Emily. Today, she leads at the very same camp where she first encountered the love of Jesus, which offers hope for the future. Your gift today will help more children and young people discover this same hope.

Frequently asked questions

Where does my donation go?
Your New Year Appeal donation, unless otherwise stated, will go towards funding ministries where the need is greatest, such as the delivery of Christian camps and holiday programs like SU-Schoolies and Leavers, as well as community-based missions.

Please note, these donations are not tax-deductible. A small portion of your gift also helps cover essential administration costs, including local field management, compliance, insurance, and marketing, which enable these ministries to run smoothly.

Can I make a tax-deductible donation?

Yes, you can! Select the “SU Australia Tax-Deductible” option in the donation form. Tax-deductible donations go towards:

  • Religious Education in Schools (REIS) and school-based groups like SUPA Clubs and ISCF groups;
  • training and equipping of Christian youth and ministry workers, including new chaplains, through our Registered Training Organisation – Scripture Union Institute of Training (SUIT);
  • protecting vulnerable children and young people from harm through ChildSafe; and,
  • building projects at Camp Coolamatong, where children, young people and families experience Christian community and connection.
Why has your financial target increased significantly this year?
We’ve seen a strong response from our supporters in response to past New Year and End of Financial Year Appeals, but the reality is that the funds raised haven’t kept up with rising costs and inflation. While we’ve taken significant steps to reduce our expenses and are committed to being good stewards of every dollar, there is still a gap between our income and our operating costs.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of this ministry, we need to close that gap. This year’s New Year Appeal target is set to help us meet our full-year fundraising goals, allowing us to continue our vital work with children, young people, and families across Australia. Your increased support, along with our ongoing efforts to be financially responsible, will help us build a strong foundation for the future.

I’m having trouble making my donation; it’s not going through. What should I do?
If you are using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), please try temporarily turning it off and attempting your donation again. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please contact our Donations team directly on 1300 478 753 or contact us at donations@su.org.au.
What do you mean by "Bring Jesus Near"?

The tagline “bring Jesus near” is our way of describing how we aim to share the transforming love of Jesus with children, young people, and their families. It doesn’t mean we have the power to control where Jesus is or isn’t, but that we’re called to be his hands and feet in the world.
We do this by:

  • Carrying his message: We share the good news of hope and redemption, helping people understand Jesus’s love. As Romans 10:14 says, “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?”
  • Modeling his compassion: Our work involves meeting people right where they are, just as Jesus did. We aim to show his love and compassion through our actions and presence.
  • Creating spaces: We create safe and welcoming spaces where individuals can encounter Jesus for themselves, whether through a caring conversation, a supportive community, or a simple act of kindness.

Our mission is to join in the work God is already doing and to help make his presence known to those who need it most. We believe that by serving others, we are serving Christ himself, as Jesus taught in Matthew 25:40: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

If I want to support local ministry, how can I do that?

While the purpose of this appeal is to raise funds nationally for the ministry areas in greatest need, you can still direct your gift locally.

Simply choose your region (e.g., “SU Australia in WA”) from the dropdown menu on the donation form below. Non tax-deductible donations support local camps, missions, and chaplaincy programs (if applicable to your region). Tax-deductible donations support local ministries like Religious Education in Schools (REIS), School Groups, including SUPA Clubs and ISCF groups, and other areas mentioned in the tax-deductible question.

How can I pray for SU's New Year Appeal?
Please pray that God will continue to provide opportunities for ministry growth, despite the financial challenges we face. As the cost of living increases, fewer donations means fewer young people having access to life-changing programs. Pray for generous hearts and the ongoing impact of our work.
How can I sign up for a monthly or regular gift?
To set up a recurring donation, select “monthly,” “quarterly,” or “yearly” in the frequency section of the donation form. Regular donations help us plan for the future and sustain our ministry.
